Keimyung University has decided to freeze tuition fees for another year. The expected financial burden following the freeze is to be managed through fiscal austerity. However, even though tuition fees will be frozen, the student welfare and scholarship system will be expanded, and all the members of the academic board are to voluntarily donate 10% of their own salary for students’ scholarships. Moreover, any excess from the budget this year, is to be used for student welfare etc.
Keimyung University students received praise for their performance in the 4th University Theater Festival in Geochang. In this festival, fifteen traditional drama teams and nine musical teams competed for eighteen days. As a result, Sweeney Todd, composed of students from the Department of Theatre Arts, was awarded the silver prize, the grand prize for a female performance, and the best actor prize.Kyonggi University team’s Crazy Bird received the grand prize in traditional drama, and Chungang University team’s Bunnaya, Come down from the Tree was awarded the prize for the best musical.
Keimyung University was selected as a model school using bicycles within the campus by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS). Recently, 'World a Musical Contest of Auspices of the Dresden Opera House in Germany' opened in Seoul with auspices of the German Embassy and, Jeon Sang-min, a tenor who graduated from Keimyung University, was selected in the final. On September 6, he is going to participate as Korea's representative tenor. On Feb.2 he graduated from the department of Vocals, and he has since been awarded many prizes within the country. This concert by the Dresden Opera House is very highly regarded and respected.
On June 11, Keimyung University and the Korea Immigration Service concluded an agreement to promote understanding of Korea’s increasingly multi-cultural society and develop research into multi-cultural society. This event was held in the main administration building of Seongseo campus. President Synn Il-hi and Chu Kyu-ho, the director of the Korea Immigration Service, signed the agreement.The agreement includes supporting professors’ research as well as establishing a foundation for social unification, exchanging research on multi-cultural society, and human resources development.
On May 26, a duo concert by Jo Su-mi & Dmitri Hvorostovsky performed to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the founding of Keimyung University at the Keimyung Art Center.In 2006, a meeting of the above two distinguished musicians was highly praised for its in-depth artistic performance.
